Product Description

The Wild Geese Irish Soldiers & Heroes Limited Edition is a blend of double distilled malt whiskey and grain whiskey from the award winning Cooley Distillery in County Louth.

It is produced using an extended double distillation process for a much smoother product with distinctive character. It is un-peated in style and is aged only in single use bourbon casks.

Smooth, sweet to start, balanced, spice and an oatmeal maltiness. Hints of marzipan and a subtle and satisfying overtone of chocolate. A lingering and satisfying finish, full with a taste of oak. Rich and luxurious - truly a delightful, masterfully blended whiskey.

The nose is full, malty and sweet with a hint of citrus; and on the higher notes, spice; a touch of cardamom.

Ireland was torn by injustice and natural disaster. The soldiers and refugees who were forced to set sail on ships for other lands became known as The Wild Geese. Through oppression and famine they created a beautiful dream FREEDOM FOR EVERYONE. The impact The Wild Geese have had over the centuries in Europe, the Americas and the world is legendary. Today that vision and fire lives on...Ireland, this little country and outpost of Western Europe that has contributed so much to the world. Out of the mayhem of the past centuries and against all odds, the Irish have survived and succeeded. They set out on this journey 'destination hope' to achieve something not just for themselves but for subsequent generations.

A very important chapter in the story of The Wild Geese took place in Mexico in the 1840s. Over a million people emigrated from Ireland to America between 1840 - 1850. Escaping the infamous famine, these people sought new opportunities, and many joined the American Army. However, when they were faced with invasion of Mexico, a group of Irish soldiers – led by a man named Jon Riley – joined the Mexican Army to aid in that country’s struggle for freedom.

They formed the Battalón de San Patricio – “Saint Patrick’s Battalion”. Comprised of primarily Irish and German immigrants, and African American slaves the battalion sympathized with the struggle of Mexico, coming together in the hope of securing freedom

The Battallón de San Patricio flew a green flag which read “Erin Go Bragh” – which means “Ireland Forever” – as they marched towards the battle field, keeping their homeland close to their hearts and igniting the fire that had started over a century beforehand by Patrick Sarsfield.

With more than 80 million people of Irish descent in the world and more than 10% of the US population (32.3m) identifying as being of Irish descent, The Wild Geese Irish Soldiers & Heroes is a brand whose story will resonate with them

Wherever you are in the world, if you are of Irish descent you are part of this story and entitled to call yourself one of The Wild Geese.
